- 1985 - Yoland Higgs
Yoland considers herself extremely fortunate to
have attended high school in the US in the 80's and to have been with that particular
group of young people (and Ms. Greeney as her English teacher.) This experience
has continued to have a long lasting and positive impact, and she feels lucky to
be able to reflect back on a great time in her life, and some memorable
characters! Funny how you remember that stuff with such clarity, and then
can't remember where you left your car keys?
Yoland returned to Adelaide, South Australia in 1988 where she commenced with her BA at
Adelaide University. She completed her post-graduate in Social Administration in
1993, and after working with juvenile offenders for the past decade, she is
now completing briefings for the Minister on behalf of Children, Youth and Family Services". After
swearing that she would never get married, Yoland married Alec Gow in 2000, and is
the proud "Step-Momster" of 16 year old Alexandra. No bouncing bubbies, but
she does have a big, loveable 3 1/2 year old Rottweiler called Rogan (does that count?),
who unfortunately was named after a lamb curry.
(updated 07/05)
- 1985 - Karla Miller Hoskins
Karla writes that she married Jess Hoskins in 1991, her co-worker at the time. They have two
daughters, Sydney who is 16 yrs old and Shelbey who is 13 yrs old (she'll be
14 in 2 mos, it's important at this age!). Sydney plays softball for her
high school and hopes to play at the college level, while Shelbey is playing
club volleyball and looks forward to playing for the high school next year.
They moved to Folsom, California (in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's,
outside Sacramento) in 1998 and have loved it ever since. Their intentions
were to move out there for two years and then move back HOME; ok, that didn't
happen!
Seven years later they are still in Folsom, getting ready to send their
oldest to college in two years, WOW ! Their youngest will be in high school
next year and is scared too death. Kayla remembers her first day as a freshman
wearing tight Jordache jeans and rainbow colored, strappy, high heeled cork
shoes. Sydney reminds her that the same " COOL " Jordache jeans are now
being sold at Wal-Mart. Oh well :)

- 1985 - Llewellyn (Lou) Smith
Lou has lived in Dallas since graduating from IKE in 1985. Many
of you know that he went to Denton to play football for the Mean Green Eagles of the University
of North Texas. After graduating with a degree in Electronics Technology he came back home
to Houston to start his career in electronics. After doing several odd jobs, Lou applied
to become a substitute teacher in the Aldine Independent School District. He landed a permanent
substitute job at Eisenhower High School in the Spring of 1994 as an Algebra teacher. It
was truly a blessing and a wonderful experience!
Lou went back to Dallas in the Summer of 1994 to be with his longtime girlfriend and pursue my gift of teaching with the Dallas Independent School District. He went through their Alternative Certification Program and ended up teaching a behavioral program to kids with severe emotional problems. Lou did this for two years before he became a math teacher at Dallas Kimball for the past 11 years.
Lou has coached there also: football for eight years, basketball for one year and boys and girls swimming.
He has taught courses from Math Models to Geometry and served as the Department Chairperson for six
years. Currently he is a Mathematics Specialist within the district and is finishing his Masters
in Educational Administration.
Lou was married in March of 1995 to the former Rosalind Alexander of Dallas. They have two daughters,

In Memoriam
Paul passed away on May 7, 2009.
Wake:
Monday May 11th 7:00pm-9:00PM
Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home
9926 Jones Road
Houston Texas 77065
Funeral:
Tuesday May 12th 10am
St Cuthbert Episcopal Church
15330 Willow River Drive
Houston Texas 77095
Below is information he sent in 2005.
Paul has lived mostly in Spring Branch for like the last 13 years or more.
He got burned out on school and dropped out, but in
1994 found out he had ADD. Paul learned how to study, went back to school and went from a 1.7 to a 3.2.
He got his Associates Degree from NHCC in Paralegal and now works for the Clerk's office in Ct #8 Judge Jay Karahan downtown.
So he hopes to see you guys on Jury duty....
Paul is single these days. He just got out of a 12 year relationship and lived with his brother (also divorcing) for a while.
He has two sons, Damien who's 23 and Brian who's 15.
If you remember all the problems he had with his knees in high school, well there is a reason. Two years out of school he was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. It's a disease that affects the
connecting tissues in the body. There's no cure, and left untreated, it can kill (like what happened to John Ritter.)
Paul remembers that after school was the time to party.
Do you remember some of these clubs:
6400, Grundy's, Blue Planet, The Lizard Lougne,Club Oasis, the Yucatan Liquor stand, The Ocean club,
Raizzens.Studio 45,Lord Jim's,The Island Club,Club Phoenix,Netwerk, Numbers,Rich's,Heaven,the
Post Oak Ranch,Johnny B Daltons and the HOP (updated 07/05)
- 1985 - Thuy Tran Phan
Thuy is now known as Misty Tran. She says she was very shy in school and stayed more in
the shadow of those who liked to shine. She stayed in Houston, received a bachelor degree
is Social Work and worked with the Department of Human Services for six years where she learned
to become the better person in life.
Shy now? Not likely. Misty married Minh Phan (Ike c/o 86) and they
have two children, Alex who is 9 and Mercedes who is 7. Minh joined the Air Force right after
high school. After four years he came back to Houston and attended UT dental school, graduating
in 1996 with a degree in DDS. Together with Misty, he opened their first dental practice
in 1996. Currently they own three dental practices and are building their last one.
Life has been gracious with them so they try to give their good fortune back to society by providing
free dental services to children who does not meet the criteria of being the "insured".
Misty and Minh did not make it to their 10th year nor their 20th year high school reunion, but will try
to make it one day. Ike launched a lot of sucessful adults into our society, and Misty is glad to
be able to read about some of their sucess stories. (updated 04/06)

Life after high school has been great! He played football in Europe for the Air Force '93-'94.
Jerome now works for the Department of Commerce as the Western Region Equal Employment Manager for the

and partners Billy Wiseman, Keith Johnson, Eugene Gaetz, Joffrey Jones, Keith Davis, Tony Hamilton,
Gidget Marshall, Bridget Morris, Rene Bailey, Tonya Richmond (you too Missy Goodfellow) were all
in attendance.
As the members of his
class all are 40 plus
years old now, it's
nice to see Sweet Lou,
Mike Reiland, Tim Harrell and
others are still doing well.
Jerome plans to move back to
the Dallas or the Houston area
so his son can experience football
in Texas! May God continue to
bless the Ike Classes
of '84, '85, '86, '87, and '88.
If anyone reads this and he

trust him...you are in his many
thoughts of those days at Ike,
and he loves you all. (updated

- 20, Johnathon - 14, Laurel - 7, and Kailynn - 6. Her oldest daughter was a model, cheerlearder

kicking varsity football his freshman year in high school and already working on scholarships.
Her 7 year old takes after her brother and is reading on a 6th grade level in the 2nd grade.
She is looking to be quite the athlete as well. Then there is their "baby." Time
will tell, but they think she is going to take after the oldest daughter. They are living
in Kansas where she has been working for Conoco Phillips Pipe Line Company for the past 5
years. She is in the process of buying a new house. And loving life!(updated 05/06)
- 1986 - Scott Everest
Scott writes, "I was the shy
quite guy no one could
remember in high school. DEVO
RULES! My motto then. It was
the 80's. I still like Devo.
After high school I became a " club
kid " Never
did drugs but did do
alot of bad things that hurt
many people. I was living more
of what I was in high school,
weird and on my own terms. Oh,
some of my friends put up with
my crazyness in high school
but in the real world it got
me shot at. What a great teaching
staff we had at Ike. I had to
be protected one year at school.
As I began to get more wild
after high school I got married
in '95 to Doris. I still did
not change my ways, but at the
end of '96 something happened
to me. I became a born again
Christian. I was running from
a call to ministry almost all
my life. From the highway to
hell to the highway to heaven
in a few months after I wanted
to become an actual devil worshiper.
Now, I have 3 children, Tabatha
5, Christian 4, Brandon 2. I'm
in the ministry. I'm
still weird but I'm living my
life on God's terms." (updated

- 1986 - Carol Rountree Gardner
Carol is currently working for Kellogg Brown & Root in their Control
Systems Engineering section. (updated 05/02)
- 1986 - Stacey Coker Henderson
Stacey attended Eisenhower in 1985, but had to move away and finish her high school years
at Kennard High School. She has 4 children and has been married for 19 years. She is proud
to be a Christian these days.
In her words, "I read Scott Everest's post giggled because he is one of the memories that
I have from school. I remember the spazz dance in the cafeteria the morning of finals.
I remember Devo Rules and that Scott wore black. I remember our quarterback was Eugene Gates.
I remember him because he was color blind. I know that because we had art classes together.
I used to ask him how he knew who to throw the ball to. LOL I also remember two good looking
foot ball players, Danny Dulan and Brian Sydell. I remember that there was something different
about those two guys. Although I could not put my finger on it at the time. Now that I look
back I know that they were Christians. They were leaders. Not followers. They had a way with
people.
I moved away in 1985 after Christmas break. I did not keep in touch with
many friends, but the ones that I did talk to told me that Danny died in a car wreck. Sad
how twenty something years later I still think about him.
But that is what life is about, " change." When you leave the school know this: nothing stays the
same. You will lose touch with people over the years. Make new friends, but never forget
the ones that you had."
