Starting up Cropping Brighten/Contrast Sharpen Saving as a jpg or gif file
Note: Paint Shop Pro is a powerful image editing program for Windows from JASC Software. Commercial and shareware versions are available. It supports JPEG, PNG, and GIF files.

1. Starting up
- Use File/Open to pull your image file into Paint Shop Pro from your disk or hard drive.

2. Cropping
- On the Select tool bar, click on the framing square symbol (a square with dashed lines.)
- Decide where you want to start cropping in the upper left corner of your image.
- Place the crosshair cursor there and drag it diagonally to the lower right side of your image.
- Move the dashed lines of the cropping frame in and out, up and down until it looks right to you.
- Let the mouse button go.
- If at this point the cropping frame is not in the right location, click outside the frame, and it will disappear.
- If the frame is suitable, select Image/Crop and the area outside the frame will disappear.
- If at this point you are not satisfied, select Edit/Undo and repeat the procedure.

3. Brighten/Contrast
- Select Colors/Adjust/Brighten/Contrast.
- With your cursor move the Brighten and Contrast dials to change the appearance of the thumbnail picture.
- Select OK.
- Your normal sized image will change to the new settings.
- If at this point you are not satisfied, select Edit/Undo and repeat the procedure.

4. Sharpen
- Select Image/Normal Filter/Sharpen.
- If the image is still not sharp enough, repeat the procedure.
- If the image now appears too sharp, select Edit/Undo.

5. Saving as a jpg or gif file
- Select File/Save As.
- Under List Files of Type select JPEG (*.jpg) or GIF (*.gif).
- Choose the appropriate drive and directory.
- Select OK.
